The best commissions begin with a conversation, not a brief. Before dimensions, before color palette, before budget — the most important question is: what do you want to feel when you walk into the room where this painting will live?
Natalie Gillis accepts a limited number of commissions each year. The process begins with a consultation — in person in Denver or by video — to understand the space, the collector, and the intention behind the work.
From consultation to completed work, a commission typically takes 6 to 12 weeks depending on scale and complexity. Large-format works (anything above 48 inches in either dimension) require additional time for proper drying and curing.
A 50 percent deposit secures the commission and the studio time. The balance is due on completion, before shipping. Every commissioned work includes a Certificate of Authenticity and full documentation of the creative process.
Commissions start at $1,500 for smaller works and scale with size and complexity. The most meaningful commissions are not the largest ones — they are the ones where the collector trusted the artist to bring something unexpected.
